FAQ

ABC’s Service Team answers some of your most frequently asked questions!

Q: What do I do if I loose my security fob?

A: In the event of an emergency (e.g., lost or disabled fob), your Harley-Davidson Smart Security System can be disarmed through the manual override function. This is an involved process, which requires you to enter a pin number that you have programmed into your Smart Security System. Refer to page 11 for the step-by-step process.

Q: How do I check the oil on a 2006 and newer Harley-Davidson motorcycle?

A: Start motorcycle and let it idle for 1 or 2 minutes, then shut it off. Check oil with motorcycle resting on the jiffy stand.

Q: Is towing covered by my factory warranty?

A: No, towing is not covered under your factory warranty. However, active-full and full-life membership in the Harley Owners Group includes H.O.G. Roadside Assistance Standard Package coverage for one tow per year up to $100 (upgrades are available). In addition, if you take advantage of the Harley-Davidson Extended Service Plan, you can receive reimbursements for rental vehicles, pick-up, towing charges and even lodging and meals if you are stranded away from home!

Q: When storing my motorcycle for the winter season, should I start the motorcycle every so often?

A: DO NOT, repeat DO NOT start the bike and "let it run for about 20 minutes once a month, or week." This is one of the worst things you can do to your bike. If you start it, ride it for at least 1/2 hour at highway speeds. A short ride around town does NOT charge the battery or dry out the inside of the engine and exhaust. It does more harm than good. Other wise, better to just leave it sit. The "start it/warm it up" routine is a certain way to cause moisture buildup in the engine and exhaust.
